FAQ's:

Where are you located?

Heart Sounds is located in the New England region of NSW, and offers in person sessions in Armidale, Uralla and the surrounding areas.

What can I expect from a therapeutic harp session?

Listening to therapeutic music is a passive experience – you are not expected to do anything – just relax and soak up the sound. The harp will be played continuously for about 20 minutes, sometimes longer. Evidence-based consensus amongst therapeutic musicians suggests that 20 minutes is necessary to modulate the nervous system and deliver therapeutic benefit. However, it is best to set aside an hour for your session to allow ample time for questions and discussion before and after the music is played, and additional time for the music if needed. You are also welcome to ask questions and/or provide feedback whilst the music is being played. Therapeutic music can be an emotional experience for some people; and it can be a reflective and contemplative experience for others. Anything that you share will be treated as strictly confidential.

Do you offer group sessions?

Yes, I do offer therapeutic music in appropriate group settings, such as a support group or health and wellness centres.

How much do you charge?

Much of the work that I do is offered free of charge as a voluntary service to aged care residents, hospital patients, and those in palliative care. I am also available for private sessions in your own home for $60 per session. These sessions may be helpful for relaxation and general wellbeing. You can book a session by completing the Booking Request Form

What does your music sound like?

I tailor my music to each person and their individual needs at the time. As such, each person will have a different experience. Most often, the music will be soothing, gentle, and slow. It may be rhythmic, or it may have no rhythm, depending on the situation and the desired effect. It is not likely that you will recognise familiar tunes, as most of the music played will be improvised. The intention of therapeutic music is not to entertain, but to create a healing space with music and sound.
